For families who face the inconceivable journey of caring for a seriously ill child, the need for a village of support is greater than ever.In 1984, a small group of volunteers recognized that need and built the first Ronald McDonaldHouse®in Wisconsin, providing families with a place to stay while their child was beingtreated atChildren's Wisconsin. Offering comfortable living space and compassionate care – without added financial stress – its inception was an act of love, and aptly named The House that Love Built.®In 2000, RMHC began accepting donations of aluminum can tabs, small but valuable pieces of metal that can be recycled for cash. They have since raised over $400,000, enabling them to expand their services and pour even more love into their mission of keeping families together when life’s challenges demand it most.In celebration of the 40th anniversary of Ronald McDonald House Charities Eastern Wisconsin, Community First was delighted to deliver thousands of aluminum can tabs collected by our team members to the Appleton Police Department, one of RMHC’s official collection sites. For 25 years, funds raised through the Polar Plunge have served nearly 9,000 Special Olympics Wisconsin (SOWI) athletes. What we write, we invite.At our Employee Meeting this week, a bounty of love was invited into our region. Centering around our collective word, Meraki, each team chose a word and found incredibly creative ways to represent it.But - that was just the warm-up band for what was to follow!During our Fall Employee gathering, everyone had such a blast building teddy bears for children facing change and trauma as a #CUDifferenceDay project - that Part II of that work was a natural fit. Hundreds of messages were written, colored, and stenciled on reusable snack bags for kids. Valentines for Veterans were hand-crafted with care.The letters and snack bags weren't the only things stuffed with goodness. The room was full of good-hearted people, employees of Community First, drawn to uplift our member-owner's financial wellness. Some experienced this event as their first day of work! The test of time is an exceptional measure. When an organization spans a century and a half - it transforms beyond measures of relevance and resiliency. It becomes synonymous with the community. Since 1874, the Fox Cities Chamber of Commerce Cities Chamber has been dedicated to our business community's economic growth and prosperity. Their impressive milestone of 150 years inspires not only a toast but also a full-on celebration! This year's Lifetime Achievement Award recipients, David G. Voss, Jr., Mary Beth Nienhaus, Maiyoua Khang Thao, Bob DeKoch, and Mike Weller, are as memorable and rare as a Sesquicentennial event. Yet, their collective impact on our region is almost immeasurable. Recognition, even at the Lifetime level, can hardly contain the value their leadership, strategic thinking, vision, and energy have bestowed on us all. As the proud sponsor of the Joyce Bytof Award for Exceptional Mentor - the Community First community congratulates Mary Beth Nienhaus on this distinction. Educator, teacher, philanthropist, all words to try to capture what Beth does - "inspire"!
