If we were to sum up the Fall 2023 Bridal Fashion Week season in two words, it would be: traditionally unexpected. Simply put, designers, both new and renowned, presented gowns with classic aesthetics mixed with a touch of modernity and individuality. Classic A-line gowns were given an upgrade and featured layers of sumptuous tulle, while traditional strapless dresses were remixed and constructed with mirror embellishments and latex.

For example, Dana Harel presented looks fit for trendy brides with vintage sensibilities, all while remaining loyal to the contemporary blueprint of her brand. Amsale and Monique Lhuillier also triggered the return of dramatic high-low hemlines but with a modern twist; a trend we're coining "mini-low." Overall, there were fresh designs, fun party pieces, and dresses available for today's bride and future brides-to-be.

Unexpected Fabrics

When you think of wedding dresses, you usually think of gowns made of crepe, lace, chiffon, silk, tulle, and taffeta. However, creativity was at the forefront this season and designers presented fabrics you typically would never associate with bridal. Collections from Nadia Manjarrez and Houghton by Katharine Polk had dresses made of nylon organdy and latex; gowns that are tailor-made for a bride who truly yearns for a one-of-a-kind look.

Tullecore

Tulle and wedding dresses have forever been a match made in heaven, and the Fall 2023 collections brought a new partnership to this beloved bridal fabric. Designers thoroughly welcomed tulle this season, constructing dresses made entirely of tulle and gowns with voluminous tulle skirts—a perfect range of looks for a variety of bridal styles.

Boudoir-Inspired

From intricately designed corsets to body-hugging silhouettes, this season has effectively and tastefully showcased what it means to be both sensual and bridal. Many brands took a calculated risk, sending dresses down the runway that were equal parts sexy, effortless, and classically chic. For brides-to-be who'd like to embrace their bodies and curves, there's definitely a Fall 2023 wedding dress for you.

Mini-Low

High-low hemlines will always be popular in bridal fashion, but this season, designers added a new twist to the silhouette: mini hemlines. Amsale and Monique Lhuillier are two of several brands that incorporated this contemporary upgrade into their collections. By embracing this style, brides have the option to wear a mini with the classic design of a gown, creating the best of both worlds.

Princess Ball Gowns

Never underestimate the power of a ball gown, especially within bridalwear. Season after season, designers are sure to include this traditional silhouette in their collections, and we absolutely love the different iterations of styles that were presented this Bridal Fashion Week. Whatever your wedding style may be, the Fall 2023 runways proved that you can never go wrong with feeling like the belle of the ball on your big day.

Flared Sleeves

A 70s staple, belle and flared sleeves have been around for decades. And while they never fully disappeared from the world of bridalwear, Bridal Fashion Week signaled a revival of this sleeve silhouette. Brands like Halfpenny London and Julie Vino illustrated what flared sleeves should be like in 2022, opting for dramatic accordion shapes and sheer, barely-there flared styles.

Sumptuous Jewels

Is there anything better than being covered in jewels for your wedding? We don't think so, and several designers this season would agree. Claire Pettibone and Ines Di Santo were two of several brands that decided to up the ante in terms of opulence, designing looks dripped with pearls, crystals, and jewels. Not only do these dresses make for a striking bridal moment, but it also allows brides to embrace more accessories on their big day.
