Our Armstrong internet review

Armstrong’s cable internet has unlimited data, no term contracts, and typically doesn’t have added fees. but its speed can be lacking, and it can be expensive. Because of this, some Armstrong internet plans don’t make a lot of sense for the average customer, leaving only one or two practical options. Let’s take a closer look at Armstrong internet service to see if it makes sense for your internet needs.

Armstrong internet speeds: What’s best for you?

Although Armstrong has four plans to choose from, there are only two practical options for most customers: The 300Mbps Zoom plan ($49.95/mo.) or the 1,000Mbps Zoom Extreme (74.95/mo.). And keep in mind those are promotional prices that substantially increase after 12 months.

Armstrong’s other plans are either too slow for most households or too expensive for the speeds provided. This is unfortunate because Armstrong’s Zoom II plan with 500Mbps of download speed is the bandwidth sweet spot for your average four-person household, but it just doesn’t add up at $91.95 a month.

Some customers may be a good fit for the Zoom Express plan, but at 25Mbps, we recommend this plan only for those on a tight budget or who have minimal internet needs.

Armstrong data caps

Armstrong has no data caps, which is a rarity amongst cable ISPs. Customers need not worry about counting gigabytes or incurring overage fees.

Our favorite plan: Armstrong’s Zoom plan offers the best compromise between speed and price, offering 300Mbps for an intro rate of $49.95 per month (Price sampled for Grove City, PA; pricing may be dependent on location.).

A 300Mbps download speed is enough for most households, though it’s on the lower end of what we recommend for a four-person home. If you know you need more speed, take a look at the Zoom Extreme plan, which provides gigabit speeds.

Armstrong internet fees

FeeCost
Equipment FeeIncluded in monthly plan pricing
Enhanced Wi-Fi (Mesh Wi-Fi)$10.95 (included with some plans)
Installation Fee$25.00 (may be waived)
Early Termination FeeNone
Reconnect Fee(undisclosed) May be dependent on location

Armstrong offsets its lack of plan variety and steep prices with relatively generous fee policies. This ISP skips some of the usual annoyances, like early termination fees, equipment rental fees, and data overage fees. The fees that are present are inexpensive.

Armstrong internet installation, equipment, and contracts

Armstrong shines when it comes to the details. The ISP’s policies around installation, equipment, and contracts show consideration for customer convenience by slashing pesky fees when possible and maintaining straightforward policies.

Armstrong installation and equipment

Armstrong’s installation fee is only $25, and it may get waived, depending on customer credit history. Armstrong’s equipment fees are included in the monthly plan rates, so you don’t have to worry about surprise rental fees on your bill.

Armstrong does offer “enhanced Wi-Fi,” which is Armstrong’s jargon for mesh Wi-Fi, for an extra $10.95. But the feature comes included in many Armstrong internet plans at no extra charge.

Armstrong internet contracts

Armstrong doesn’t impose term contracts. Services are month to month, so you’re free to cancel at any time without any early termination fees. Armstrong even prorates your bill if you cancel in the middle of the month.

Because of its speeds and availability, Armstrong’s cable internet is likely the most practical choice for many customers in its service areas. DSL and satellite internet aren’t really up to the task of average household internet use in 2023, and fiber internet availability still isn’t great.

If you do have access to a fiber ISP like AT&T or Verizon, you can probably find a better Mbps-per-dollar value there. It’s also worth it to take a look at 5G home internet services like T-Mobile. The speeds are a little slower than Armstrong’s cable internet, and you may likely experience a little lag at times, but the pricing and convenience can’t be beat.

Is Armstrong internet right for you?

Armstrong’s internet offerings are a decent fit for your average household. Cable internet like Armstrong’s is known for its good speeds, solid reliability, and excellent availability. We do wish Armstrong’s prices were a little better, but the ISP partially makes up for it with good perks, like unlimited data and a general lack of fees.
